SCIAF Emergency Appeal

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the emergency appeal launched by the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) in response to the drought crisis in Ethiopia; understands that 20 million people in the east African country are on the brink of starvation and that 90% of cattle have died following the biggest drought since the 1980s; commends SCIAF’s work supporting those across the globe affected by climate change, COVID-19, the war against Ukraine and the global economic downtown, which it considers is undoubtedly heaping despair upon despair, and asks that people across Motherwell and Wishaw take time to consider what changes can be made to support communities that, it believes, are hardest hit by the climate and economic crisis.
