The 2023 World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF) World Karate Championships in Dundee
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Dundee’s Kanzen Karate on the successful hosting of the World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF) World Karate Championships in July 2023; recognises that over 5,000 athletes, coaches, officials and spectators from five continents and 62 karate federations attended the event in Dundee; notes that this is the second time in five years that the city has hosted the event, with a similarly impressive championship taking place in 2018, which, it understands, contributed millions to the local economy; believes that the economic boost to Dundee from the 2023 tournament is estimated to be in excess of £10 million; commends what it sees as the remarkable work of Kanzen Karate, its Chief Officer, Roy O’Kane, and WUKF; thanks them for their contribution to the Dundee and Scottish economies, and wishes organisers, competitors and supporters the very best for their future endeavours.
