Lodged by Gillian Mackay (Scottish Green Party) Standard Motion 18 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the North Lanarkshire No Pasaran Memorial Committee on its 10th anniversary; understands that the committee formed to honour those who made what it sees as the ultimate sacrifice, in the fight against fascism in the Spanish Civil War; recognises the tremendous efforts from the committee over the years, including the introduction of a memorial created in the Duchess of Hamilton Park in Motherwell, dedicated to the 40 local volunteers of the International Brigades who, it understands, travelled from Lanarkshire to fight Franco in Spain; understands that there were a total of 549 Scottish volunteers for the brigades, and further understands that, proportionally, more Scots volunteered than those from any other country.
