Ethno-religious Violence in Manipur, India

That the Parliament notes reports of the current violence in Manipur, in north-east India; understands that, following an outbreak of ethno-religious violence in May, it is believed that at least 80 Christian believers are dead, 400 churches destroyed and 10,000 people made homeless; further understands that this violence reportedly began between the Kuki tribe and Meitei community, with victims continuing to be in a desperate situation; notes the reported quotes from Open Doors partner, Ngai Elam, who said that "The Meiteis continue to attack and shoot each day to terrorise the tribal groups… women and girls are sexually harassed and abused, men over 18 are trained with weapons by insurgent groups" and that "The only safe places for the tribal people are refugee camps"; acknowledges reports that the Meitei group, Armabai Tenggol, has looted the homes and properties that were abandoned by Christians who had fled the violence; understands that many affected villages are currently unreachable, meaning that the true scale of this violence is, it believes, still unknown; thanks Open Doors and others for their reporting on this violence, and wishes to send a message of solidarity to those subjected to what it sees as this horrendous situation.
