World Breastfeeding Week 2023

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges 1 to 7 August 2023 as World Breastfeeding Week; understands that World Breastfeeding Week is a campaign and celebration supported by UNICEF, World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action and the World Health Organization to raise awareness of breastfeeding and galvanise action to improve the experience of those who breastfeed; encourages businesses and employers to sign up to Scotland’s Breastfeeding Friendly scheme to support those who breastfeed; understands that breastfeeding rates are lowest in the most deprived areas in Scotland, and urges the Scottish Government to tackle what it sees as this health inequality by ensuring that expectant mums have access to all the information and help that they need to breastfeed if they wish to do so.
