Increase in Energy Company Profits

Lodged by Kevin Stewart Standard Motion 15 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament condemns what it sees as the obscene profit levels being announced by energy companies, with the likes of British Gas reporting its profitability rising by 889%; agrees with the End Fuel Poverty Coalition's view that "these profits are a further sign of Britain's broken energy system"; recognises that households are still being hit hard by energy prices and the cost of living squeeze, while, it considers, the UK Government and Ofgem continue to fail to reform the energy price cap; believes that Ofgem has failed consumers and is unfit for purpose, and calls on the UK Government to take action to provide the regulator with the powers necessary to protect the public and to provide a package of support for consumers to protect them through the winter months.
