Zetland Bowls Clubs’ Ron McArthur Retires from Bowls Scotland Men’s Presidency
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the retirement of Zetland Bowls Club member, Ron McArthur, from the presidency of the gents division of Bowls Scotland; understands that, alongside the presidency, Ron has contributed more than 20 years of service to his roles within the bowls community, including in the role of district secretary for the Zetland BC; further understands that Ron is stepping aside to facilitate involvement from the younger generation to revitalise the sport; recognises that, while Ron is retiring from the presidency, he will maintain his work with various disability groups that help run and organise accessible bowls events across Scotland, which, it understands, has been a rewarding part of his work since the 1980s; notes that Ron was the first ever visually impaired bowlers coach in Scotland in 2003 and has coached at many events, including as team manager at the Special Olympics in Sheffield in 2017; congratulates Ron on his retirement from the presidency, thanks him for all his work increasing the accessibility of the sport, and wishes him all the best for the future.
