Chris Lewis Completes Fundraising Walk of the UK Coastline
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates former paratrooper, Chris Lewis, on completing his 19,000 mile fundraising walk around the UK coast; understands that Chris began his walk in 2017 in the Welsh village of Llangennith, with little money, and has relied on donations and support from the public to complete the trek; further understands that he set off with the aim of raising money for the Armed Forces charity, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), which supports people like Chris, who have served in the Armed Forces and have had to adjust to civilian life; congratulates Chris on raising more than £500,000 for the SSAFA; notes that, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, Chris spent months with his dog, Jet, on the uninhabited island of Hildasay in Shetland, and understands that this inspired his book, which was released during his trek, entitled Finding Hildasay; commends the support and generosity of Shetlanders who, it understands, provided provisions and shelter during his time in Shetland, and the support of the general public across the UK for Chris; notes that Chris met his fiancée, Kate, on his travels and that they had a son in May 2022 with whom they continued the rest of the walking challenge, often wearing Fair Isle knitwear, and wishes Chris and his family well as they celebrate their achievements and for the future.
