78th Anniversary of Atomic Bombing of Nagasaki

That the Parliament commemorates the 78th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan, on 9 August 1945, following the first, less powerful, atomic bomb deployment three days earlier in Hiroshima; notes that everything within a mile of ground zero was annihilated, with estimates suggesting that 40,000 people were killed by the initial detonation; commends all those who are dedicated to ensuring that the use of nuclear weapons is consigned to the past, particularly the work of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, a coalition of non-governmental organisations promoting adherence to, and implementation of, the United Nations nuclear weapons prohibition treaty, which, it understands, to date, has been ratified by 68 nations across the globe, and urges all nations of the world to show the same courage and determination to abolish nuclear weapons.
