Sean Allan Strikes Gold at Special Olympics World Games

The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates Sean Allan, a member of Castle Douglas Judo Club and Dumfries Judo Club, on winning a gold medal at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, the world’s largest inclusive sports event involving thousands of athletes competing together in 26 sports; recognises that Sean was able to secure victory in both of his fights in under 10 seconds, which is an incredible achievement; notes that Team GB won an impressive haul totalling 137 medals along with 47 ribbons; understands that, Sean, along with coach, Luke Struthers, as well as his fellow athletes, coaches, parents and supporters, were recently honoured at a special celebration at No 10 Downing Street and met with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who praised the role sport plays in bringing people together, breaking down barriers to opportunity, building relationships and growing confidence, and wishes Sean and his teammates continued success in the coming months ahead.
