200 Glasgow Care Home Staff Ballot for Industrial Action

Lodged by Paul Sweeney (Scottish Labour) Standard Motion 7 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the efforts of 200 employees at Bailleston Care Home, Cardonald Care Home and Stobhill Care Home, who are reportedly balloting for industrial action; understands that the ongoing dispute between workers and the employers, Silverline Care, and the parent company, Clyde Care Limited, concerns overtime rates and conditions and pay; further understands that the workers are represented by the GMB trade union, which risks being derecognised by the firm responsible for the care homes; considers that, in order to achieve high-quality social care that communities deserve, the collective voice of those working in the sector must be front and centre in service provision; acknowledges reported concerns that the dispute risks impacting the wellbeing of both workers and care home residents, and urges Clyde Care Limited to return in good faith to negotiations with union representatives to resolve the issues at hand and deliver an offer that values social care workers.
