Glasgow Film Theatre and Unite the Union Sign Landmark Recognition Agreement

That the Parliament commends the signing of a voluntary recognition agreement between the Glasgow Film Theatre and Unite the Union; notes that the agreement will formalise collective bargaining and negotiation on pay, policies and any future changes to conditions for front-of-house and cleaning staff; congratulates Unite workplace reps and the Glasgow Film Theatre management team on what it sees as the positive negotiations that have led to this point; understands that the agreement builds on the existing progressive workplace policies in place at the picture house, including the Real Living Wage; recognises the long-standing history of the cinema, which was established in 1939 as The Cosmo and became the Glasgow Film Theatre in 1974, as part of Glasgow’s cultural heritage; notes the comments by the Unite the Union General Secretary, Sharon Graham, that “the GFT is not only one of the best cinemas in the country to visit but also to work at”; hopes that the recognition agreement will set a precedent for other picture houses in Scotland to formalise collective bargaining, and wishes workers at the Glasgow Film Theatre the very best for the years ahead.
