World Suicide Prevention Day 2023, Creating Hope Through Action

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September 2023; notes that the theme is “Creating Hope Through Action”; understands that, at any one time, around one in 25 people are contemplating suicide, and that, on average, two people go on to take their own life every day in Scotland; acknowledges that many people struggle to cope at one point or another of their lives, and that being able to reach out to someone could help them to know that someone cares, that they are valued, and to assist them in accessing the support that they need, and recognises that every life lost represents someone’s partner, child, parent, friend, or colleague.
