World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates all those who participated in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow; acknowledges that the event attracts thousands of pipers and drummers from all over the world to compete for the ultimate prize in pipe band competitions; notes that this was the 75th anniversary of Glasgow hosting the renowned event for the first time in 1948, and that the city has staged the event since 1986; understands that an estimated 40,000 spectators descended on Glasgow Green to watch and hear bands from Scotland and as far afield as the USA, Canada, Austria and Australia; recognises that the event took place alongside Piping Live! 2023, Glasgow’s International Piping Festival, which celebrates its 20th edition, and believes that the popularity of the event is testimony to how much the Championships mean to the international piping community and to fans of traditional Scottish music.
