Glasgow Science Centre Teams Up with Local Men’s Group

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the team at the Glasgow Science Centre on its latest project involving the Men’s Group, which meets at the The Hidden Gardens in Glasgow’s southside; understands that the Men’s Group was established in 2016 as a response to the lack of community programmes supporting vulnerable men in the south of Glasgow, and that the goal of the group has been to address health inequalities, improve mental health and wellbeing, and enable participants to be more confident and socially connected; notes that a team from the Glasgow Science Centre visited the group to see examples of their artwork, which helped them to agree on how the project should progress; understands that they collectively decided that the project would be a Glasgow Science Centre community-curated tower exhibit, which would give the men the opportunity to showcase their artwork while celebrating their love of the Gardens and its positive effects on their health and wellbeing; understands that a mobile tower exhibit was created, which stands two metres tall and is heavily influenced by the immediate environment and the historical buildings that surround The Hidden Gardens; notes that the tower consists of six boxes and six printed panels, with each box telling a slightly different story, and considers that the variety of materials used by different hands makes for a rich and textural art exhibit.
