Macrobert Moviehouse Plean Established
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the establishment of the Macrobert Moviehouse Plean, which is a year-long partnership between Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling Council and Plean Voice; understands that the brand new 20-seater cinema will see the latest releases, as well as community-programmed film events at the Balfour Community Centre in Plean, and is expected to open in autumn 2023, with the first movie to be shown being chosen by the local community; further understands that the project will run for one year, and will employ three part-time staff who will operate the cinema during its opening hours on Thursdays to Sundays, and that a pay what you can model will be adopted to help as many people in the community as possible to access the cinema; notes that the planning, approach and project management was made possible through Screen Scotland's Recovery Fund for Independent Cinemas, backed by the Scottish Government, while Stirling Council is allowing use of the Balfour Community Centre in kind; further notes that Plean Voice, a volunteer-led charity aimed at making Plean a better place to live, work and visit, has been heavily involved with the project, as have Creative Scotland; wishes the venture great success, and hopes that many people in the Plean community enjoy having their own cinema at the heart of their community.
