Shetland Cycle Training Coordinator Recognised with National Bikeability Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Shetland cycle training coordinator, Elaine Skinley, on being awarded the Keith Fergus Annual Achievement Award at the Bikeability Scotland Awards 2023 by Cycling Scotland; understands that the award is so named in tribute to the enthusiasm and energy of the late cycling tutor, Keith Fergus; understands that Elaine Skinley is recognised for her commitment to personal and professional development, ensuring that the programme in Shetland continues to evolve; further understands that judges also praised her strong rapport with her instructor network, her wider support for cycling in the local community and for being part of Shetland’s constituent record in Bikeability Scotland delivery; congratulates Elaine on her strong track record of cycle training in Shetland schools over the past 20 years, ensuring that primary school pupils in Shetland are provided the opportunity to participate in on-road cycle training; believes that on-road cycle training is important to equip children and young people with the skills they need to keep themselves safe on the road and to impart the confidence to travel by bike, and wishes Elaine well in her future endeavours.
