ASH Scotland’s 50th Anniversary Event in Forth Valley

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates ASH Scotland on taking Action on Smoking and Health, with 50 years of important advocacy helping to drive down smoking rates in Scotland, and on spotlighting the inequalities being caused by tobacco; commends the health charity for holding a showcase event in Camelon, highlighting its collaborative work with community-focused organisations in Forth Valley, such as Larbert High School and Transform Forth Valley, as part of its Charter for a Tobacco-free Generation initiative to raise awareness of the harms caused by tobacco and related products as Scotland progresses towards becoming a tobacco-free generation by 2034; recognises the articulate contributions at the event by S3 pupils, Jack Duncan and Izzi McDonald, who presented about Larbert High School’s activities to inform young people about the risks of nicotine addiction and health harms associated with using e-cigarettes; encourages people in Forth Valley who smoke and want to give up to access the free person-centred support that is available from NHS Forth Valley’s Quit Your Way service, and wishes ASH Scotland well for its work in the upcoming years to influence the further action that, it believes, is needed to significantly reduce the number of people using tobacco, as well as children using e-cigarettes, and holding to account what it sees as tobacco companies making profits from people’s ill health.
