Glasgow Charity Honoured for Supporting Vulnerable Persons

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow City Mission's Overnight Welcome Centre on receiving an award from Police Scotland Greater Glasgow for its dedication, commitment and professionalism when helping vulnerable persons out of rough sleeping during the coldest months; understands that the honour was accepted by the City Mission manager, Elyse MacKinnon; considers that Elyse has been instrumental in the development and success of the Overnight Welcome Centre over the last five years and has worked tirelessly to ensure that the project is as effective as possible in providing a safe, warm and welcoming space for those facing homelessness; believes that, thanks to her work, the Overnight Welcome Centre is a significant and staple part of the work being done in Glasgow to prevent rough sleeping; notes that the 2023 Overnight Welcome Centre will open on 1 December and will be based in the mission's building on Crimea Street, and understands that, in 2022, the centre helped 534 individuals avoid sleeping rough.
