Congratulating Denny Library and High School on Award in 2023 First Minister's Reading Challenge
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Denny Library and Denny High School on winning the Library Reading Culture Challenge Award in the 2023 First Minister's Reading Challenge; recognises that the Challenge is run by Scottish Book Trust, working closely with Education Scotland, to celebrate the reading journeys of schools, libraries, and community groups across Scotland; understands that the Library Reading Culture Challenge Award was presented to members of the young adult reading group who attend Denny High School and meet once a week in Denny Library; further understands that the library and school jointly launched the reading group in October 2022 for young people in the community, to support mental health and wellbeing and to provide a safe space to socialise and share a love of reading; notes that the judging panel praised the reading group’s engagement with other local community groups and strong promotion of visiting their local library; commends the group for their additional volunteer work at the library, and hopes that their joy of visiting their local library continues.
