Centenary of the BBC’s First Broadcast in Aberdeen

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the centenary of the first broadcast by the BBC in the city of Aberdeen; considers that, from the first live radio transmission on the evening of 10 October 1923, the BBC in Aberdeen has contributed to the creative economy and cultural life of Scotland; believes that, over the decades since the first broadcast, the BBC base in the city has become a centre of excellence for traditional music and for content specialising in the environment and rural affairs, with expert output continuing to this day; recognises that Aberdeen is the only Scottish base outside of the central belt for BBC Studios, which is the commercial and production arm of the BBC, and notes what it sees as the importance of BBC Studios continuing to make TV programmes in the north east; celebrates the content made in Aberdeen for the BBC, including Landward, Beechgrove Garden, Granite Harbour, Travelling Folk, Take the Floor, Out of Doors and Scotland Outdoors, and wishes the BBC in Aberdeen a successful future as it enters its second century.
