Permanent 35th Anniversary Exhibition Launched to Mark Lockerbie Air Disaster

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the installation of a new and permanent special photography exhibition at Lockerbie Academy for the commemoration events as part of the 35th anniversary of the Lockerbie air disaster, which claimed the lives of 259 passengers and 11 members of the Lockerbie community; understands that the photography exhibition was created by Emeritus Professor of Photography, Larry Mason, of Syracuse University in New York State, and that it is a selection of photographs taken between 1996 and 2019 to display how the community of Lockerbie has adapted, evolved and healed, while remembering all of those who lost their lives on 21 December 1988; notes that the ceremony to launch the exhibition heard from Lockerbie Academy Head Teacher, Brian Asher, Professor Larry Mason, Lockerbie Councillor Carolyne Wilson, and that it was attended by students from Syracuse University, members of the Lockerbie community, the Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Councillor Gail MacGreggor, and local MSPs and MPs; further notes that all the photographs in exhibition can be found in the book, Looking for Lockerbie by Professor Mason; thanks Professor Mason for his gift of the exhibition to Lockerbie Academy, and celebrates the continued and enduring strong ties between Lockerbie and Syracuse, following the tragic disaster in 1988.
