NHS Grampian Hosts Diversity Festival to Launch Anti-Racism Plan

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that NHS Grampian will bring together its colleagues and partners for a Diversity Festival in October 2023 to launch a new Anti-Racism Plan, which it believes is the first of its kind among Scotland’s NHS boards; acknowledges what it sees as NHS Grampian’s longstanding commitment to equality and diversity, and the importance of the festival in bringing colleagues together and sharing their lived experiences; understands that NHS Grampian has engaged on an ongoing basis with students, colleagues and partners since an open letter, written by the Black Medical Society at the University of Aberdeen in 2019, highlighted the devastating impact of racism on the wellbeing of medical students; agrees with Dr Sneh Banik, a stroke medicine consultant physician at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and NHS Grampian’s Equality and Diversity Champion, who has emphasised the importance of speaking up when witnessing racism and the need to challenge racism and bias wherever it exists, and supports NHS Grampian’s production of a video as a resource to support staff in effectively highlighting and reporting any negative experiences in the workplace.
