The Passing of Former East Dunbartonshire Council Provost, Una Walker

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges with sadness the passing of the former Provost of East Dunbartonshire, Una Walker, on 31 August 2023; celebrates Ms Walker’s significant contribution to local government and education; understands that she was a hardworking and dedicated councillor for the Kenmure and Baldernock ward and then the Bishopbriggs North and Torrance ward from 2003 to 2017; commends Ms Walker’s career as a police officer, then a teacher of 20 years, later serving as convener of the Education Committee for East Dunbartonshire Council, which, it believes, was a role in which she garnered national recognition and respect; acknowledges her many years of service as a director of the East Dunbartonshire Municipal Bank, also known as “The Friendly Bank”; understands that Ms Walker was celebrated by her peers, council workers and constituents throughout her council career and well into her retirement, and offers its deepest condolences to Ms Walker’s family, friends and former colleagues at this difficult time.
