Lauren Thomson Awarded the George D Gray CBE Award by the General Teaching Council for Scotland

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Lauren Thomson, a probationer teacher working in Haddington, for receiving an award and £1,000 bursary from the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS); notes that the P2/3 class teacher at Letham Mains Primary School was awarded the George D Gray CBE Award for her thesis, How can teachers challenge homophobic attitudes in the classroom?, which she completed as part of her fourth year at Queen Margaret University, where she studied for her Honours degree in Primary Education; understands that the prestigious award recognises academic achievement in Initial Teacher Education that is directly relevant to professional standards and to teaching in Scotland, and that the GTCS described Lauren’s work as “a powerful contribution to what it means to become a teacher in Scotland”; commends Lauren on her outstanding achievement in receiving the award and bursary, and wishes her all the best with her teaching career.
