The motion

That the Parliament commends the team of transplant coordinators, nursing and surgical staff on Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital renal ward for a remarkable week of kidney transplants; recognises that the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde renal ward performed 12 kidney transplant operations between 15 and 22 September 2023, which it considers was particularly notable given that it was Organ and Tissue Donation Week 2023; understands that three of the 12 transplants were from live donors, and that one donor was part of the UK Living Kidney Sharing Scheme (UKLKSS), which helps difficult-to-match patients, who have a friend or family member who wants to donate a kidney but are not a compatible match by blood group or tissue type, by matching the pair with another pair in the scheme so that each recipient receives a kidney from the other’s friend or family member; further understands that the sharing scheme increases the number of people who can receive transplants from living kidney donors and the opportunities for patients who are on long waiting lists for a transplant; considers that a high degree of agility and hard work from all members of the team are required to perform such surgeries and manage the recovery of that number of patients, and congratulates the team for managing an exceptional week of transplants.
