The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 10 October 2023 is World Mental Health Day 2023, a day that is dedicated to raising global awareness and understanding of mental health issues; understands that, whilst mental health problems can affect anyone at any time, World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to promote positive mental health and break down the stigma, which it believes still surrounds mental health issues; notes that the theme for 2023’s World Mental Health Day, as set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, is "mental health is a universal human right", with the message that everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health; understands that one in eight people globally live with mental health conditions, and that, in Scotland, around one in four people are estimated to be affected by mental health problems; considers that good mental health is vital to overall health and wellbeing and that problems with mental health can impact people's physical health, wellbeing and livelihoods; commends the work of all of the charities, organisations and individuals who are raising awareness and providing mental health support, and encourages everyone to have open conversations about mental health and to seek help if they are struggling.
