Wild Skies Shetland Shortlisted for 2023 SURF Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Wild Skies Shetland on being shortlisted in the Creative Regeneration category of the 2023 SURF Awards for Best Practice in Community Regeneration; understands the SURF Awards are operated by Scotland’s Regeneration Forum, a charity and membership body of more than 300 organisations concerned with the regeneration of socially and economically challenged communities in Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Government; further understands that the SURF Awards recognise impact and achievement in community generation, with the Creative Regeneration category rewarding best practice in placing artists, arts and creativity at the heart of community regeneration efforts; celebrates the work of Wild Skies Shetland, a charity based in Unst, which encourages locals and visitors to appreciate Shetland’s beautiful and dramatic skies; notes that the charity’s two sky trails feature artwork by local people; further notes that the charity undertakes a broad range of community-led activities, including producing a film selected for screening at the Shetland Film Screenplay Festival 2023, theatre shows for children, a photography exhibition of sky-related phenomena taken by Shetland-based photographers, and participating in an exhibition with artist Janette Kerr, who is an honorary Royal Scottish Academician; notes that the outcomes of the 2023 SURF Awards will be revealed at a presentation in December 2023, and wishes all at Wild Skies Shetland the best.
