The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) Scotland on taking action on smoking and health for 50 years; commends the health charity for showcasing its collaborative work with NHS Tayside’s "Quit Your Way" service to inform and support community-focused organisations across Dundee, such as the Brooksbank Centre’s money advice service and crafting group, and the Penumbra Mental Health charity to raise awareness of the harms that it considers are caused by tobacco and related products; believes that more than 20 people, who are struggling with the cost of living crisis and engaged with the Brooksbank Centre in recent weeks, are now aiming to give up smoking, many of whom have been inspired by the efforts of centre staff, Fran Nichol and Margaret Watt, who, it understands, have started their own journeys towards life free from tobacco; further believes that 29 staff working for Penumbra Mental Health have more knowledge about how smoking can impact on both physical and mental health, as well as personal finances, and have increased confidence to speak with clients in Dundee and Angus about quitting using cigarettes; understands that the research, Exploring the strategies for self-quitting smoking in Scotland, was presented by Effie Marathia, a PhD student at the University of Dundee, highlighting the positive impacts smoke-free environments can play in unaided quit smoking attempts; encourages people in Dundee, who smoke and need person-centred support to give up, to contact NHS Tayside’s "Quit Your Way" service, which links with community pharmacies to help stop smoking attempts, and wishes ASH Scotland well for its work influencing the implementation of effective public health policies and practice to tackle what it considers are the health inequalities caused by the use of tobacco and related products, as Scotland progresses towards becoming a tobacco-free generation by 2034.
