Kirkwall Lifeboat Coxswain Awarded with Service Medal

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Stewart Ryrie, coxswain of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's (RNLI) Kirkwall lifeboat, on being formally recognised for 40 years of service at the station; understands that Mr Ryrie first joined the lifeboat at 17 years old, and has served on all three of the vessels based out of the Kirkwall station during his time there; recognises that, while serving as second coxswain in 2009, he took part in the rescue of the Norwegian yacht, Inanna, during a nine-hour operation in treacherous seas, an act for which, it understands, he was presented the RNLI’s "Thanks of the Institution on Vellum" award for gallantry; understands that, alongside his continued work with the Kirkwall lifeboat, Mr Ryrie is Chief Officer of Northlink Ferries’ MV Hamnavoe, supporting the lifeline transport links between Orkney and mainland Scotland; commends Mr Ryrie for his dedicated service to his community; congratulates him on this well-deserved award, and wishes him all the very best for the future.
