Vibrant Gala Project Shortlisted for Prestigious Regeneration Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Vibrant Gala Project on being shortlisted in the Improving Scotland's Places category of the prestigious 2023 SURF Awards for Best Practice in Community Regeneration, which identify and celebrate best practice, innovation and achievement in interventions that improve Scottish communities; understands that the Vibrant Gala Project, led by the Energise Galashiels Trust, responded to the decline of Galashiels town centre by creating a more vibrant and welcoming place through a wide range of community-led projects and events over the last three years, supporting the improvement of 35 town centre properties, marketing Galashiels and providing digital support to enterprises, progressing the Tapestry Way, and delivering a Heartland Market with 2,500 attendees; notes that almost 30 new enterprises have started or expanded trading activity in the town centre in the last 18 months thanks to the Vibrant Gala Project; pays credit to all those involved in the project, and wishes them the best of luck at the upcoming 2023 SURF Awards in December.
