The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Railway Children, which is an international children’s charity, on the launch of its fifth UK project at Scotland’s busiest station, Glasgow Central Station; notes that the project aims to reach, and provide support to, vulnerable children and young people on the railways; understands that the Safeguarding on Transport project in Glasgow, funded by Alstom and Avanti West Coast, aims to strengthen safety responses on the rail network, where high numbers of children can be at risk of abuse and exploitation; notes that many children and young people are drawn into the hustle of Glasgow city centre; understands that some may have run away from a home where they face abuse, poverty or neglect, and that others could be victims of criminal exploitation; further understands that, for the British Transport Police, Glasgow Central Station is one of the top stations in the UK for safeguarding incidents involving young people, and that 130 safeguarding and vulnerability reports relating to 10-to-17-year-olds were submitted in 2022-23; notes, therefore, what it sees as the importance of the Safeguarding on Transport project, and commends what it sees as the vital work of the Railway Children.
