World Stroke Day 2023

Lodged by Roz McCall Members' Business Motion 2 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises World Stroke Day, which takes place on 29 October 2023; understands that Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland estimates that around 136,000 people in Scotland are living with the impact of a stroke; notes that stroke is a leading cause of adult disability in Scotland; commends the work undertaken by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland to provide community healthcare support services, which enable stroke survivors to build confidence and manage their condition through supported self-management; considers that Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s One in Five report demonstrates that too many stroke survivors in Scotland are unable to access rehab support, and notes the belief that enshrining the "right to rehab" as a human right in Scotland would give everyone who is living with the impact of a stroke access to the care that they need, when they need it, for as long as they need it.
