Clydeport, Glasgow Business Awards’ Green Champion
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Clydeport, part of the Peel Ports group with a network of sites including Greenock, on being recognised as a Green Champion at the 25th Glasgow Business Awards event on 5 October 2023; understands that the Green Champion award celebrates businesses with a dedication to driving forward eco-friendly initiatives, and that Clydeport was commended for its "outstanding investment in sustainability" and its "industry-leading mission to become a net-zero port operator by 2040", which is five years ahead of the Scottish Government’s national decarbonisation targets; further understands that key developments made to reduce carbon emissions across the Clydeport operation include a £17 million investment in installing two state-of-the-art electric cranes at Greenock Ocean Terminal, as well as changing lighting across all sites to LED; understands that the network of ports has also heavily invested in upgrading its equipment fleet to run on low-emission alternatives to fossil fuels, with 88% of its fleet now running on hydrogenated vegetable oil and 90% on electric power, and applauds Clydeport for taking its role in achieving Scotland’s net zero targets so seriously, and hopes that its approach inspires other businesses to consider their impact on the environment and make changes to their operations to drive down emissions.
