Celebrating the Completion of Major Upgrades at Westhill Orbital Trail

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the completion of major works at two community paths on the Westhill Orbital Trail, which is a 12.7km circuit of Westhill connecting a series of roads, tracks and paths; understands that Westhill and Elrick Community Council led the works on the trail, many parts of which suffered significant damage and flooding during Storm Arwen in 2021 and Storm Malik in 2022; highlights that the works included the construction of a 480m-long path to improve the accessibility for users of path networks on the trail, and the restoration and upgrading of the main 1.1km east-west through route in Carnie Woods, along with new signage and the creation of resting points; acknowledges that Westhill Orbital Trail now has two additional links at the Westhill Golf Club and Lawsondale Woods, and at Carnie Woods as a result of the works; believes that these improvements will encourage more people to use the trail as an alternative for everyday journeys, which will lead to reduced case use within the town; notes that Scotland’s walking charity, Paths for All, awarded Westhill and Elrick Community Council a total of £119,895 in funding from the £1.5 million Ian Findlay Path Fund in 2022 to complete the works, and wishes Westhill and Elrick Community Council, local residents and visitors all the best when using the improved paths network on the Westhill Orbital Trail.
