Littering Every Three Seconds

That the Parliament notes a study conducted by Ellipsis Earth and Hubbub, in Glasgow, that used advanced image capturing and artificial intelligence data-processing technology to analyse littering patterns; recognises the findings that litter is dropped on Glasgow's roads every three seconds on average, with out-of-town shopping centres being common locations for littering; acknowledges that scientists used vehicle cameras to survey A-roads and B-roads, city centre, and retail areas, creating a detailed map of litter locations and types; further acknowledges the findings that litter accumulates at places where vehicles slow down, like traffic lights, junctions, and roundabouts; notes the study’s recommendations for interventions, such as signs, bins in targeted locations, and media campaigns, to reduce littering; further notes that the study also highlights the importance of making it easy for drivers to dispose of litter and encourages public engagement in tackling the issue; welcomes the study’s aims to use technology and data to address problem littering and create cleaner streets and roads in Glasgow; considers that local authorities do a good job in tackling littering, but that there is only so much that councils can do when litter is reportedly being dropped at such a high rate, and urges all members of the public to take responsibility for their own litter and to dispose of it responsibly, which, it believes, would greatly improve the environment.
