Retiring on a High After 45 Years' Commitment to Dumfries and Galloway Fire Service

The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates William C McLachlan on his retirement after an exemplary 45 years' service to Dumfries and Galloway Fire Service; notes that he stood down as watch commander at Kirkcudbright Fire Station in October 2023; understands that he joined the force as a rookie in October 1978 and that his commitment to the service and community has been recognised with various promotions throughout his career; further understands that he was involved in a serious incident at Mute Hill Smithy on 24 May 1993, when three members of crew were seriously injured; welcomes that he received The Queen’s Gallantry Award and the Firemaster’s Certificate of Commendation for his actions; acknowledges also his involvement at the Lockerbie Air Disaster in 1988, when he volunteered to assist in providing resilience arrangements within the wider Dumfries and Galloway area, and wishes him a long and happy retirement.
