The motion

That the Parliament warmly congratulates the St John Scotland (Dumfries) Patient Transport service on celebrating 25 years of cancer patient transport in Dumfriesshire and the Stewarty in October 2023; understands that it started out from humble beginnings with only a handful of drivers using their own vehicles to take patients from across the region to access chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in the central belt; further understands that the number of volunteers has steadily increased and that the organisation has been able to acquire dedicated vehicles to allow them to drive more than 1,500 miles every month to allow patients to get to hospital for treatment; praises the dedication and commitment shown by the volunteers to ensure that this lifeline service is available for patients, who, it believes would otherwise struggle to make the journeys required over the course of their treatment; notes also the valuable contribution made by staff at the oncology department at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary; welcomes that this invaluable service is provided free of charge; further welcomes the news that a civic reception will take place to recognise local volunteers from St John Scotland, and wishes them continued success in the coming years ahead.
