Women's Support Project 40th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Women’s Support Project on its 40th anniversary; acknowledges that the organisation works to end violence against women, raise awareness of the root causes, extent, and impact of male violence, and improve services for those affected; understands that the Women’s Support Project was established in 1983 and works in partnership with a wide range of individuals and organisations; recognises that there are a number of events and projects taking place throughout the year, including an event dedicated to Janette De Han, who died in 2012 and was a key figure in establishing the first domestic abuse court service in Scotland and a passionate advocate for women and children affected by male violence, and a visual timeline to capture the history and development of work on commercial sexual exploitation in Scotland, which is being exhibited in the Scottish Parliament from 7 to 9 November 2023; thanks the Women’s Support Project for addressing what it sees as unmet need and emerging issues, making links between different forms of violence and abuse, and supporting multiagency and partnership approaches; congratulates everyone involved with the Women’s Support Project for their work over the last 40 years to improve people’s understanding of, and response to, male violence, and wishes them every success with their future campaigns.
