No Life Half Lived

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) for publishing its new five-year strategy for supporting people living with chest, heart and stroke conditions and long COVID, titled No Life Half Lived; believes that CHSS is Scotland’s largest health charity that is working to help people with chest, heart and stroke conditions live life to the fullest; considers that everyone should have the right to live the best life possible after suffering a stroke or being diagnosed with a chest or heart condition; notes that, according to CHSS, every day in Scotland, 41 people have a stroke, 32 people have a heart attack, 16 people are diagnosed with heart failure, and 15 people struggle to breathe because of chronic chest illness; acknowledges that CHSS’s Community Healthcare Support Service aims to be there for individuals during all stages of their condition, including rehabilitation and prevention, diagnosis, and recovery; calls on the Scottish Government to improve access to support services for individuals with chest, heart and stroke conditions and long COVID, especially in the rural and remote areas of Scotland, and supports calls to close the gap between what happens in reality and the belief that everyone with long-term health conditions should have access to a quality, supported, self-management and community recovery service.
