Congratulations to Young Fathers on Winning Scottish Album of the Year Award 2023

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Edinburgh-based band, Young Fathers, on winning the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award 2023 for its album, Heavy, Heavy, at an awards ceremony in the Albert Halls in Stirling on 26 October 2023; understands that this is the third time that the band has won the SAY Award and that it was picked as the winner from a shortlist of 10 Scottish albums that had been shortlisted from over 400 submitted albums from a diverse range of genres and artists; notes that the SAY Award is Scotland's national music prize celebrating Scottish music and the cultural impact and contribution of outstanding Scottish albums; understands that the awards are produced by the Scottish Music Industry Association, a not-for-profit trade body and membership organisation, which exists to strengthen, empower and unite Scotland's music industry, with support from partners including Creative Scotland, Stirling Council, YouTube Music, Seabass Vinyl, Ticketmaster, HMV, PPL, Spotify, the Youth Music Initiative, Youth Music, Music Declares Emergency, Fopp, Go Forth Stirling BID, BBC Radio Scotland, The Skinny, The List, Tiny Changes and The Golden Lion Hotel; notes that the SAY Awards 2024 will again be hosted in Stirling at the Albert Halls for the third year running, and looks forward to hearing the diverse range of albums shortlisted for next year's award.
