A Tribute to the Late Bob Dickie of the Clydebank Asbestos Group

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the significant achievements of Robert "Bob" Dickie, whose death was sadly announced on 17 of October 2023; understands that Bob was the former chairperson of the Clydebank Asbestos Group, as well as a much-loved husband, father and grandfather; notes that Bob joined the group in 2001 and not long after became chairperson, leading major campaigns in the fight to achieve truth and justice for victims of asbestos; acknowledges that Bob was a trade unionist throughout his life, and while working at John Brown’s Shipyard was a key player in one of the most famous work-ins of modern times, leading the workers to take over the yards; believes that the 1971 Upper Clyde Shipbuilders work-in saved shipbuilding on the River Clyde; considers that Bob will be remembered as someone who believed passionately in helping your fellow man, and that he did so with kindness, decency and integrity, and thanks Bob for his unwavering passion and dedication to secure truth and justice for asbestos victims across Clydebank, which, it considers, is a legacy that will live on through the future work of the Group.
