Borderer Appointed to Prestigious Rotary Position

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Gordon McInally from Yetholm for his appointment as President of Rotary International; understands that Gordon is the second Scotsman to have ever held the prestigious position, which was marked by an event at Scottish Borders Council chambers; notes that he has been travelling the world since his appointment, meeting some of the organisation’s 1.4 million members worldwide; understands that Gordon operated his own dental practice in Edinburgh until 2016, held the position of chair of the East of Scotland branch of the British Paedodontic Society, and has served as a presbytery elder, chair of the Queensferry parish congregational board, and commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland; further understands that Gordon, in his new position as President, plans to put an emphasis on creating a culture that understands and further supports the mental health of its members and the wider communities that they serve across the world, while working to reduce stigma, increase awareness and improve the mental health services that are available, and wishes Gordon the best during his term as President of Rotary International.
