The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Stranraer Water Sports Association (SWSA) on being awarded £52,132 from the National Lottery Community Fund to support and develop its instruction programmes and recreational activities, and to provide sessions for local primary and secondary school pupils; notes that the SWSA provides a range of activities and instruction, including kayaking, paddleboarding, powerboating, sailing and coastal rowing on Loch Ryan; recognises that the SWSA was formed in January 2016 by members of local water sports clubs to seek to promote water sports in the Loch Ryan area, and that, in 2022, a new Water Sports Centre was set up to provide access to water sports at an affordable rate for local people and to promote the use of Loch Ryan as a water sports centre in the south west of Scotland; understands that the SWSA is currently leading on a £5.8 million project to deliver the Stranraer Water Sports Centre, which will create a water sports hub in the town, providing a range of facilities including activity teaching space, community space, equipment storage and maintenance, changing areas and other facilities, and that this development is part of the ongoing re-development of the waterfront area of Stranraer, and wishes the SWSA well for its ongoing work to support and deliver water sports activities in Stranraer and the wider Loch Ryan area.
