The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Darvel Area Regeneration Team (DART) on receiving The King's Award for Voluntary Services, which it understands is the highest honour that can be bestowed on a team of volunteers to recognise outstanding voluntary work, and is seen as the equivalent of an MBE; understands that the town of Darvel is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2023 and was brought to international fame at the start of 2023 by beating Aberdeen 1-0 in the Scottish Cup; further understands that DART is a hands-on organisation that welcomes everyone in the community to develop and improve the town and community of Darvel; considers that the common aim of regenerating community spirit and civic pride has successfully brought the community together through popular events such as Darvelo and the Halloween Celebration, local markets that stimulate the local economy, upgrades to Morton Park to make the space safer and more welcoming to all ages, and the operation of the community gathering space, The Corner; gives special acknowledgement to DART for its collaboration with other community groups such as the Darvel Implementation Group, Sport Darvel, The Dinner Ladies, VERVE and Vibrant Communities; commends each volunteer and community member who has spared their time to work together on DART projects to meaningfully improve their local area, and wishes them well as they close 2023 with another significant event to add to their local history.
