Argo Boxing Club Drumchapel

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Argo Boxing Club, Drumchapel, on its 50th anniversary; understands that Argo Boxing Club was opened in 1973 by Jimmy Harvey to give young people something to do and to take them off the streets; commends the work of the team of volunteers, including some of Jimmy’s family, who are still involved in running the club; notes that the club is primarily female-led with six females and two males on the organising committee, which, it understands, is a rarity in boxing; further notes that the group was successful in 2022 in applying to sportscotland for lottery funding to develop a site in Drumchapel to create its own gym, which it hopes to offer for the use of other community groups; believes that the club is a real "community champion", and wishes it continued success in the future.
