The Contribution of Irene Scott to Maryhill's Burgh Halls

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the significant contribution of Irene Scott to the success of Maryhill’s Burgh Halls, having served as a Board member of the Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust for the last 15 years until her recent retirement; acknowledges her role as an integral part of the campaign to save and restore the Burgh Halls, following the publication of demolition plans for the historic site; notes that when Maryhill Burgh Halls reopened in 2012, following major redevelopment works, Irene Scott became the Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust Chair; recognises what it sees as the passion and dedication shown by Irene Scott and her fellow volunteers and campaigners, over many years, to help re-establish Maryhill Burgh Halls as an integral part of the local community since its reopening; appreciates Irene Scott's lifelong association with Maryhill and the Halls, which has included attending school in the local area, and working at the nearby East Park School; understands that her parents first met at a dance in the original Maryhill Burgh Halls; appreciates the significant contribution and crucial role that volunteers often make to the success of venues such as Maryhill Burgh Halls, and wishes Irene well in her well-earned retirement.
