World Children’s Day

The motion

That the Parliament recognises World Children’s Day, UNICEF’s annual day of action for children, by children on 20 November; notes that the theme for 2023 is "for every child, every right", denoting that every child, everywhere, has a right to live in a peaceful world, the right to a liveable planet and the right to have their voice heard; further notes that World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day to promote international togetherness, raise awareness among children worldwide and improve children’s welfare; understands that 20 November is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child and, since 1990, also marks the date that the UN General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on children’s rights, and encourages every child to get involved in World Children’s Day by sharing their ideas and aspirations for a better future.
