Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Presents its First Campbell Hunter Award

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has presented its first Campbell Hunter Award, which was named after a Peebles teenager who tragically passed away three years ago, aged just 18; understands that Campbell was a former pupil of Peebles High School, where he helped to promote the SFRS partnership with the stem cell charity, Anthony Nolan, as part of a team of School Champions, young people who are chosen for their commitment and drive to help recruit potential stem cell donors to the Anthony Nolan register; congratulates St Mungo’s High School in Falkirk on being the first ever recipient of the Campbell Hunter Award for its efforts to recruit stem cell donors among young people, as research shows that younger donors lead to more successful transplants; understands that St Mungo’s has held three recruitment events and signed up over 260 young people to the Anthony Nolan register, and has also recorded a former pupil as its first stem cell donor, and remembers former St Mungo’s High School pupil, Declan Rennie, who sadly passed away after an unsuccessful stem cell transplant in 2017, aged just 15, and who the school holds dear in its memory in its endeavours to support the charity partnership.
