St Andrew's Day Lamb Campaign

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates all of those who have been involved in the St Andrew’s Day lamb campaign, which seeks to make Scotch lamb synonymous with Scotland’s national day; notes the work of George Purves in establishing the programme in 2009, and the ongoing efforts of Quality Meat Scotland, the Institute for Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland, and others, to promote the campaign; welcomes the participation of 458 schools from throughout Scotland, where, it understands, 100,000 portions of Scotch lamb will be cooked by the pupils and served in schools; understands that Scotch lamb will also be sold in the Scottish Parliament’s cafeteria on St Andrew’s Day to mark the occasion, and notes what it sees as the importance of the animal to the Borders, which rears the largest population of lamb in Scotland, helping to sustain jobs and livelihoods throughout the region.
